DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

The benefits of deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Unlike Swedish massage, which has a relaxing effect and uses lighter pressure, deep tissue massage is done using deep finger pressure with strokes that are firm and slow. Deep tissue massage has several therapeutic effects and can be used to treat many different conditions. This type of massage is ideal for the treatment of major muscle groups like the neck or lower back. It can also be used to relieve strain and treat injuries in your joints and tendons.

SWEDISH MASSAGE

Swedish massage is one of the most commonly offered massage techniques. It’s sometimes called a holistic massage. The technique aims to promote relaxation by releasing muscle tension.

Swedish massage is gentler than deep tissue massage and better suited for people interested in relaxation and tension relief.

A traditional Swedish massage involves the whole body. You will begin on either your back or your stomach and flip over at the halfway point.

If you have an area of particular concern, such as a tight neck, you can ask your therapist to spend more time in this area. Depending on your preferences, you can ask your massage therapist to use light, medium, or firm pressure.

During most full-body massages, the expectation is you’ll be undressed. Your massage therapist will ask you to undress for your massage while they wait outside. It’s up to you whether or not to keep your underwear on.

Your massage therapist will drape a sheet over your body. They will pull back and adjust it as they work their way around.

Your massage therapist will use an oil or lotion to allow for smooth and long stokes..

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a holistic complementary therapy that treats the feet in order to balance the whole body. It is based on the theory that our feet mirrors our whole body and by applying pressure to different parts on the feet- known as ‘reflex areas’- it will have a beneficial effect in the corresponding areas of the body.

Its purpose is to treat the whole person, on the grounds that a symptom such as pain, skin rash or any discomfort is usually a sign of an internal problem. Eliminating the symptoms without treating the root of the problem that caused it, would be like trying to cure chickenpox by painting over the spots.

Working exclusively on one part of the body may get the energy moving in that area, only to have it stagnate somewhere else. Reflexology works the entire foot in order to treat the entire person, before focusing in on an area that requires extra help.

Reflexology restores ‘homeostasis’- the body’s equilibrium’ thus enhances its own ability to heal itself. It encourages relaxation- helping the body to rebuild its energy resources and recover from illness and disease- and also encourages stimulation – helps to activate circulation and nerve supply to all organs.

Treatment may stimulate the body to release stored toxins, which could cause headaches or nausea. Drinking plenty of water helps kidneys work effectively and flushes any waste products through and out the body’.
